Character NAME: Karina Lyle / Blue Rose
Canon & MEDIUM: Tiger & Bunny, Anime
Canon PULL-POINT: Post canon
Character AGE: 18
Character ABILITIES: In canon, Karina is a type of special human called a NEXT. Every NEXT has a power, hers being an ability to control ice. She had two guns she can use to fire the ice with but can also manipulate it without them.
Character HISTORY: Wiki Link
Character PERSONALITY: Most people have gone through changes throughout their life to become who they are now. It is no different for Karina. In order to fully explain who she is now, one must be aware of who she was at the start of the series.
Superhero and Idol, Blue Rose had been one of the most popular heroes. Many people adored her and she was constantly ranked high among the heroes, falling below only the King of Heroes himself. Karina herself didn't care much for being a hero and barely put forth any effort into her heroing. When the going became too tough, her signature Cutie Escape would be used and she'd flee the scene. At one point, she was actually yawning before going into battle and nearly got shot in the fight before being saved by Barnaby. The saving pissed her off, too. Not one was she doing something she disliked but now she was being saved and lectured. Oh yes, Tiger tried to lecture her. Her spunky attitude instantly came out by calling him lame and then walking away from him while he was still talking. If she doesn't want to listen, she won't. The only reason she was even a hero was to further her singing career and no one, especially not them, had the right to meddle in her personal life. What she wanted was what she got and no one was going to get more out of her unless she decided to give it. The lives of others or helping her companions never crossed her mind. In her opinion, being a hero was a stupid job which no one ever gave you the appreciation you deserved.
A self attitude to have. That's what she was. Selfish. A brat, really. Even her own parents felt the sting of this bratishness. When her mother was concerned about her early on, Karina bluntly says for her to stop bugging her. Oh boy, can she be blunt. When Barnaby had saved her earlier, her reply to him commenting on the saving was “Your partner has a nasty attitude”. Her company's boss didn't get away from the bluntness and got flat out told she didn't want to be a hero. All she wanted was to sing and even that, as she said, could be done in a bar (said to her mom, no less). The hero job was one she hated so much that she nearly decided to quit. It had no point to it. She couldn't hang out with friends. She was forced into dangerous situations. No point existed in being a hero. All in all, Karina seemed like selfish, spoiled brat with an attitude problem.
And then it happened. During one of her performances at a club, Tiger was there. Upon giving her a compliment about her performance, she just brushed it off as though it were nothing. Flustering easily, at least with compliments, wasn't her style. Telling him to stop trying to be cool right afterward was. This further displays how blunt she is capable of being. As Tiger mentions, she's an honest kid and she really is, even if to an extreme. If she wanted to say something, you better believe she will. By this time, the idea of quitting being a hero had been tossed around and she wasn't certain of what to do. Never did she out right ask Tiger for help. She had brushed off the questioning of even her friends when they asked if everything was okay so she clearly wasn't someone to just ask for help. Instead, she got right to the point of asking him why he was a hero. It was a thankless job with no appreciation and, thanks to her egocentric perspective, she couldn't guess why anyone would willingly do it. Thus Tiger answered:
Tiger: Why do you sing?
Karina: Because I love to. And because I want everyone to hear my singing.
Tiger: Same here.
Karina: Huh?
Tiger: I'm a hero because I want to save people. Isn't that enough of a reason? It doesn't matter if anyone really acknowledges me or not.
This answer was what started her transformation from an egocentric brat into a more mature brat. She thought over this response long and hard. It was a strange perspective, one she had never thought about, and thus it received extra consideration. Thoroughly thinking over stuff she didn't know was how she worked. This continued when her father came to talk with her. Even despite her having said she was not in the mood to talk, she still listened to everything said. Her father's words of her attitude bringing about disaster coupled with Tiger's reasoning for being a hero were what finally start her development. Egocentrism had been close to winning, however. She had been right there, on a stage and ready to sing, when the other heroes were called into action. While performing, this guy had been talking about how he didn't accept them as heroes. What he said was what finally made up her mind. First thing first, she snapped at these strange, drunken men about how the heroes weren't doing this to be appreciated by them! Following this show of fearlessness, she proceeded to save the epically butts of the other heroes. Not without a snarky comment to top it off, “Just be thankful... I even came for you guys!” Tiger's reason for saving them had become her own. She finally understood why they do what they do. It wasn't to say she completely matured as she got mad at Tiger and Barnaby for having placed bets on whether or not she'd come, but at least she grew enough. Blue Rose was back in action and now for the right reasons.
This fearless hero is the Karina now. No longer does the Cutie Escape get used for a quick get away. The lack of running away becomes even more impressive when one realizes she has no armor on to protect her. Fearlessness is clearly a big trait of hers. Another large characteristic of hers is wanting to help others. Whether it be with small or big things, she doesn't mind lending a hand. When Tiger decides to throw a party for Barnaby, Karina gives him advice on what to get him as a gift and even apologizes when that gift doesn't work out. Not only does she wish to help, but she admits to her faults, too. It's all apart of that extreme honesty. Lying simply does not come naturally to her. She doesn't expect to be lied to, either. When Tiger tells them the reason for having upset Barnaby, she buys it instantly (getting all grumpy at him) and doesn't question it until Fire Emblem tells her the truth. Another good quality of hers is how perceptive she is. She's forced to team up with Tiger during one mission and, while they're on stage together, she asks if he and Barnaby had a fight.
An even more impressive quality is her strength. Karina wears no armor, is teeny and may seem weak but is so much stronger than most people would expect. During Maverick's erasing of their memory, the only one who manages to overcome it, even a little, is Karina. She believes Tiger despite her memory of his identity having been erased. This strength can be seen once more when they're captured by Maverick. Everyone is so worried about one of their companions blowing them up or dying. Karina had been too but she makes up her mind. Thanks to thinking of Tiger and what he would do in this situation, she knows what must be done. Standing up tall and with conviction, she says that she believes in her friends, that she believes in Tiger and Barnaby and that they won't lose. Everyone gains hope from listening to her speak and their minds get made up, as well. In addition to being strong, she's also kind. Whether it be a stranger or her crush's kid, Karina can give them a smile and tell them it'll be okay. She simply gives others hope. Going from a child to someone who has such deep trust in her companions: it truly shows how she's grown.
Though, this isn't to say she's not still a kid. Oh no no. Karina is a teenager and it shows. Remember the bluntness from earlier? Still there and in full force. Whether it be by calling people snarky nicknames (zero-point man at Kotetsu, for example) or just having a snarky mouth in general ('he didn't have to come back since it's one less rival' on Kotetsu coming back from his vacation), that bluntness remains very much in place. Some might call it honest, but this is a brutal kind of honesty. Her bratty attitude is still there, too. While working together with Tiger during that one mission, she kicks him off her bike, jabs him in the ribs and kicks him off stage to get more of the attention (especially during her song). Other aspects of teenagers are there, too. Most teenagers get crushes. Karina does, as well. On who? Tiger. She gets all flustered around him and even cries when she nearly loses the towel he gave her. He walks in while she's doing girly stuff to her face and screams 'DON'T LOOK' while running to hide behind Fire Emblem so her crush doesn't see her cucumber covered face. This is also a good example of her being silly. She even sticks a tongue out at Barnaby at one point and flails on several occasions. Like a kid, she's also capable of crying. Sometimes this crying happens at appropriate times like when Tiger turns up alive at the end; other times it happens at strange moments like her crying that the towel Tiger gave her had been stolen. A final, notable trait is her stubbornness. Stubborn as a mule describes it well enough. After the time skip in the end, Karina can be seen reading a book. The title of this book? '100 Ways to Make a Single Father Fall for You'. Yup, after all this time, she's still determined to somehow get Tiger. If she wants something, she will not give up easily.
The best way to describe her would be calling her a caterpillar. At first, she started out a small teeny thing and not much to look it, but before anyone even realized it, she'd changed into this amazing butterfly. She's simply an amazing person and truly a hero.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Karina's weapon is going to be a less than conventional weapon: a towel with a cute, winking tiger on it. This towel may seem weak at first but it'll evolve into a strong type of armor. As she is one of the few heroes without armor, it's her main weakness. There's an episode where she gets shot at and can't do anything because of the lack of defense so it makes sense her weapon would make up for it.
The evolution of it will be slow but steady. After a bit of working with, it'll start to wrap its way around her arm and form into a sort of light-weight gauntlet. With more and more training, the towel will continue to wrap its way around her body. First it'll cover one half of the body, the the other and then finally top it off with her head. It'll look something like this but in light blue, except with more of an armor texture and with a head-covering as well and no fingerless gloves. There will be a teeny tiger design (like on the original towel) over one side of the torso.
Its evolution isn't done once the suit is complete, however. Even when complete, the defense of the suit will be fairly weak at first. Though it can defend from regular attacks fairly well, it won't capable of doing much more than that. The more Karina trains with it, the higher defensive capabilities it'll become. These are the levels it goes up by:
Level 1: take the punch of a regular human
Level 2: take the punch of a strong fighter/non-human
Level 3: take the punch of a strong non-human
Level 4: withstand harsh conditions like blizzard or flamethrowers
Level 5: deflect regular bullets
Level 6: deflect special weaponry
Level 7: will deflect a majority of attacks, not involving extreme conditions (such as nuclear explosions and what not)
However, her armor will have a limit. As with most armors, enough strain can damage or destroy it. Taking a heavy onslaught of Levels 5-7 for more than a few minutes will damage it and cause it to revert back to a towel to prevent permanent damage. Levels 1-4 can be taken for around 30 minutes before the weapon reaches the reverting point.
Chosen SKILLSET: Considering she's a hero in canon, Karina's definitely a Fighter.

[When Karina's face pops on to the network, it doesn't seem particularly happy. Frankly put, it appears annoyed. In full hero get up, she studies the screen for a moment, making sure it works like it's supposed to. Once satisfied that it indeed is, she finally speaks up.]
So this thing does work. A functioning whatever this is is the least these guys can do after dragging us into some strange world. It looks like such a complete dump, too. Spending a little for cleaning up the place shouldn't be too much to ask for. [Then she sighs and mutters, more to herself than anything.] Seriously, who designed this place? Tiger?
[Only someone like that guy would have this lame of a style. It's all run down and crappy and everything. Kidnapping her is one thing; kidnapping her to a place this ugly is another.
Oh well, complaining can come later. More important things need to be done right now.]
My name is Blue Rose. I'm a hero from the city of Sternbild. If anyone has heard of this place or of someone from it, I'd appreciate being contacted as soon as possible. If any of the other heroes are here, that goes doubly for you guys.
[That last part sounds a bit high and mighty. As it should be. Those guys have to contact her asap so she could be sure they're okay. Especially Tiger. Who knows how much damage he's caused by now if he's here all alone.]
I also have a couple questions. What exactly is this 'Initiative', anyway, and [Her expression sours slightly as she holds up a light blue towel with a cute, little, winking tiger on it.] how is a towel supposed to be a weapon?
Third PERSON:
How did this day end up like this!? Karina practically groaned as she made her way through the streets of Exsilium. Everything had started out so nicely, too. First, she'd hung out with her friends, then she got a couple good tips from that book on how to get with Kotetsu and then she actually saw Kotetsu in the flesh (even if he hadn't been all that cool at the time). So how did it go from seeing him to wandering the streets of some decrepit town?
She frowned at a few of the buildings. The design of this place was just so terrible. It felt sad, actually. Maybe that was why it bothered her so much. Maybe the style lacked any luster, but even lackluster building could look nice. The whole atmosphere of this town rubbed her the wrong way. Just what had happened in this city?
More questions popped up as she continued down the road. What was the Initiative? How could they all be transported here like this? And, most importantly, why was this her weapon.
Her gaze turned to the towel grasped firmly in her hand. Fluffy and soft-looking, the piece of cloth was light blue in color with a silly design of a winking tiger on the front. How could this be considered a weapon? Yet it somehow was. During the weapon selection, this had caught her eye almost instantly. Design aside, the fact something clearly not meant for combat counted as such was intriguing. Thanks to already having abilities of her own, grabbing this for a weapon didn't seem a bad idea.
Besides, this could replace the towel which remained back home. She did need a towel, especially since that lady had mentioned something about participating in training. It seemed like a good towel. Very soft, fairly durable, it even had a tiger on it. She stared at the tiger and maybe the teeniest hint of red now colored her face.
The other reason this had been chosen was because of the little design. Any reminder of him simply couldn't be left alone. For the first time since her arrival, the teeniest of smiles crossed her face. Maybe this wasn't the same as her towel or the real Tiger, but this would be enough to help her get through this. She'd do whatever she had to do, save whoever she had to save and then get back home to buy that book to figure out how to score with that idiot!
